Chosen - An Autobiography
Michele Guinness was brought up to love all the traditions and ritual of her Jewish culture. But in her teens she found something lacking. Searching for answers would lead her to a destination she could never have imagined - not in her wildest dreams.
In this lively account she tells how she read John’s Gospel under the bedclothes by torchlight, alongside Lady Chatterley’s Lover - both "forbidden books". The New Testament won - and brought her face to face with the Jesus she knew nothing about.
In due course she would marry Peter, great great grandson of Arthur Guinness, the brewing, who, to her family’s shock, would deal in another kind of spirit - as a minister in the Church of England.
This highly diverting autobiography, studded with vivid anecdotes, describes her spiritual journey as she begins to make sense of being both Jewish and a Christian, and its implications, not just for her, but for her children - and her church.
Chosen is a complete re-write and up-to-date version of Michele’s best-selling autobiographies, Child of the Covenant, and Promised Land, written over twenty years ago.
I have been interested in Michele Guinness ever since I read her book “Child of the Covenant” back in the nineties....anyone who enjoyed those books will appreciate this book. I think anyone who is interested in Jewish-Christian relations will enjoy this book.
